  • Tuesday, September 23, 7-8 p.m. Senior Parent/College Information Night, in the Lewis and Clark Auditorium. Counselors will be there to answer all of your questions and discuss the college application process.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS- It is the student’s responsibility to complete all course work required! Check to see if you have all of the graduation requirements. Do not jeopardize your graduation.

 

SELECTIVE SERVICE- The law requires that males register with the Selective Service within one month of their eighteenth birthday. It is a prerequisite for obtaining federal student loans, job training benefits, and federal employment. Register online or at your local post office.

 

NATIONAL COLLEGE FAIR- Wednesday, October 1, the National College Fair will be at the Spokane Center at W. 334 Spokane Falls Blvd. from  6-8 p.m. Students are strongly encouraged to attend the College Fair during the evening hours.

 

COLLEGE APPLICATIONS It is the student’s responsibility to obtain applications and meet all college deadlines. Application deadlines vary from college to college and from state to state. Now is the time to begin contacting out-of-state schools for applications (for example: some California schools have November 30 deadline).

 

CHRISTIAN COLLEGE FAIR- October 23, 2008, 6-8 p.m. Valley Assembly Church. E.15618 Broadway, Spokane.

 

We recommend that seniors complete all applications before Thanksgiving. This includes online and paper applications. All students need to fill out a College Application Request Form (found in the Student Office). Students who need recommendation letters should also pick up a Recommendation Letter Form in the Student

Office.

 

 

APPLICATIONS FOR COLLEGES AND

UNIVERSITIES- Most colleges and universities now have their own freshman application packets that must be filled out for admission. Online applications should be available within the next week or so. Check Online at your College Website. Students are encouraged to apply online.

 

IF A STUDENT PLANS TO ATTEND COLLEGE IN A WESTERN STATE OUTSIDE OF WASHINGTON-You should check out the WUE (Western Undergraduate Exchange) options at: www.wiche.edu/sep/wue You may be able to save on tuition costs.

 

COMMON BLACK COLLEGE APPLCATION. Seniors can apply to all 34 member institutions for a one-time fee of $35. Check in the Career Center. (Cost may change for ’09 applications).

 

FINANCIAL AID FORMS- To be eligible for college financial aid, students will need to fill out a FAFSA financial aid form, which WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL DECEMBER, AND MUST NOT BE MAILED BEFORE JANUARY 1, 2009. Students who plan to attend a private college or university should find out if their school requires a CCS PROFILE FINANCIAL AID FORM, which can be completed and sent starting September 2009. NEW SCHOLARSHIPS

 

WENDY'S HEISMAN TROPHY AWARDS- For all senior athletes who are dedicated and have become role-models for underclassmen. Criteria: Must have a "B" average, compete in at least one sport, and complete application at: www.wendysheisman.com. DEADLINE: OCTOBER 1, 2008.

 

HORATIO ALGER SCHOLARSHIP- $2,500 to $20,000 in scholarships and grants to students who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. Must be U.S. citizen and plan to attain a Bachelor’s Degree.  October 30, 2008.

 

COCA COLA SCHOLARS- Is dedicated to selecting well-rounded students from around the nation. Two hundred students will be awarded $10,000 and fifty will be awarded $20,000. Students meet all citizenship requirements. To apply : www.coca-colascholars.org Deadline: October 31, 2008.

 

ACT 6 FOUR-YEAR FULL NEED SCHOLARSHIPS TO WHITWORTH OR GONZAGA –Criteria:  Good student, under-represented minority, financially disadvantaged, have urban leadership skills, are first generation going to college, are eager to foster intercultural skills, and/or have a GPA above 3.0- There is also a meeting this Saturday, September 20TH- 10 a.m. at G.U.

 

SEATTLE UNIVERSITY SULLIVAN LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP- Scholarships ranging from $11,000 to $18,500 per year, for up to four years for outstanding Seattle U. freshmen. Criteria: High GPA, leadership, and must be able to attend Sullivan Leadership Day on January 10, 2009. Deadline: November 15, 2008.  Applications are online at:www.seattleu.edu/sullivan.

 

MONTANA STATE UNIVERSITY PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP- Criteria: GPA of 3.75 and 30 ACT or 2000 SAT. Twenty scholarships will be awarded. Postmark deadline is January 9, 2009.

 

COLLEGE ADMISSION TESTING

Required by most schools, military academies, and ROTC programs.

Check with your prospective school for specific testing requirements.

Registration packets are available in the Career Center and in the Student Office.
