FACULTY INFORMATION
COMMUNICATION -- FACULTY MAILBOXES/VOICE
MESSAGES/E-MAIL & THE DAILY BULLETIN
All items placed
in teachers' mailboxes should be dated and should include the name of
faculty member responsible. Mailboxes, e-mail, and voice mail should be
checked before school, before and/or after prep period, and immediately
after school. Please do not send students to pick up faculty mail.
Routine telephone messages will be placed in your voice mailbox. The
bulletin should be reviewed during 2nd period every day and
posted in classroom. All staff notices need to be cleared by the
principal.
The Lewis and
Clark Bulletin is our daily source of information and direction. Notices
for the bulletin should be placed in the "Bulletin" basket on the
counter in the main office by 11:30 a.m. of the day previous to its
publication. In second period or Home Room, the bulletin must be read
daily and posted in the classroom.
GRADE BOOKS &
ATTENDANCE
RECORD KEEPING
-
Take accurate attendance every
period. By state law, students may NOT take attendance.
-
Keep your own attendance records as the official
record of a student's attendance in your class.
-
At the end of the year, turn in the attendance
sheets along with your grade book.
The Grade and
Attendance Record is an official school record and should be treated as
such with respect to the privacy of the student and teacher.
Each grade book
should have the sections labeled noting the class, period, and semester
dates. A legend or grading scale should be included to determine the
grades. During fire
drills or evacuation, grade books are to be taken by the teacher.
Grade/attendance
books will be collected at the end of each year.
GRADING PROCEDURE
1. To provide
a consistent process of evaluation throughout the district, these
practices and procedures shall be followed:
At the
beginning of each course or unit, students shall be informed of the
general objectives of the course or unit and of the basis upon which
achievements will be evaluated.
The student
shall be made aware of and involved in the evaluation process.
If students are
removed from their regular classroom for the purpose of specialized
instruction, unreasonable demands should not be made on them to make
up work, nor shall the absence alone reflect negatively on the
student's grades. Grades will not be assigned for subjects in which
students do not receive instruction.
-
Objective,
clear, and consistent.
-
Subject to
review and possible modification.
-
Followed by an
opportunity for the student to receive information regarding the
grading criteria used and ways for improvement.
-
Based on
evaluation of academic achievement.
2. Grading
Criteria will be based on factors such as: basal text assignment, oral
and written assignments, class participation, special assignments,
research, activities of various types, special contributions, and
student learning objectives.
A student's
academic grade or credit in a particular subject or course may be
adversely affected by reason of tardiness of absences only to the
extent and upon the basis that: (a) the student's attendance and/or
participation is related to the instructional objectives or goals of
the particular subject or course; and (b) the student's attendance
and/or participation has been identified by the teacher pursuant to
policy of the school district as a basis for grading, in whole or in
part, in the particular subject or course. WAC 180-40-235(2).
Absence
resulting from disciplinary actions or short-term suspension. As
required by law, students who are removed from a class or classes as a
disciplinary measure or students who have been placed on short-term
suspension shall have the right to make up assignments or exams missed
during the time they were denied entry to the classroom if the effect
of the missed assignments will be a substantial lowering of the course
grade.
TEACHER WORK DAY
It is expected
that teachers will arrive by 7:30 a.m. and remain for a minimum of 30 minutes after the close of school. An
exception may be made by an Administrator. Staff members are
requested to be in their assigned rooms by 7:45 a.m.
All staff must
sign in and sign out at the counter in the main office. If you leave the
building during the day, use the Temporary Sign in/out Sheet.
Teachers are NOT
to remain in their rooms during their prep periods when other teachers
are teaching. There are desks, computers, and telephones in each staff
work room on every floor. If there are any exceptions to this policy,
they should be cleared with an administrator. Traveling teachers should
be provided with storage place in the room as well as whiteboard or
bulletin board space to keep assignments posted, class expectations,
etc.
TEACHER ABSENCE
If it is
necessary to be absent for reasons of sickness, emergency, family care,
or bereavement, call SubFinder -
354-7368. See your SubFinder
handouts.
Please ensure
necessary attendance books, seating charts, and lesson plans are
available and your "sub folder" is complete and filed in the office.
Make sure you have bright green information on students with
life-threatening illnesses available with your class rosters/lesson
plans. On the day of
your absence, please call the school no later than 2:30 to inform us
whether to retain the substitute.
Substitutes
should not be expected to implement class activities in which you can
foresee a serious safety concern.

minor looking ones.
