The Board of Directors of Spokane Public Schools is composed of five citizens publicly elected to represent the community in setting policies and directing school programs. Members are volunteers who serve in staggered six-year terms. School board members must be citizens of the United States, be qualified voters residing in the district, and have the ability to read and write the English language. Staff Details
Shanice Applewhaite, student advisor, was appointed in the summer of 2011. She is a senior at North Central High School where she is a member of the softball team and the National Honor Society. She is also a member of Young Life and P.O.M.P. (Place of Most Potential), an interactive club at WSU that helps prepare young students for college. Expiration of term: July 2012.
 
Karl Fencl, student advisor, was appointed in the summer of 2011. He is a senior at John R. Rogers High School where he is a member of the varsity baseball, forensic debate and bowling teams. He also serves as president of the Interact Club (for which he won a Spirit of Jim Chase Youth Award) and is vice-president of the National Honor Society. Expiration of term: July 2012.
