Apprentice Programs

  • Apprenticeship programs combine on-the-job training (OJT) with classroom instruction to train individuals to become skilled craftspeople. OJT is provided through paid work in the field on construction sites, supervised by trades professionals. Classroom training provided by the program often takes place at local community and technical colleges. Most apprenticeships in the building and construction trades take 3 to 5 years to finish. After completing all the requirements, the apprentice "journeys out" and is then a journey-level craftsperson.

Spokane Public Schools offers a Pre-Apprenticeship program for students in grade 10-12 through the NewTECH Skill Center and local apprenticeship groups. This program is for students who are actively pursuing a career in the construction industry.
