ATTENDANCE POLICY
Attendance is crucial for achievement and success in school or on a job. The state law requires students to attend all classes everyday and on time.
1. RETURNING FROM AN ABSENCE. A note from the parent/guardian is to be presented to the Student Office upon returning from an absence. You may also E-mail Yolondag@spokaneschools.org please put ATTENDANCE in the subject line. The note or phone call must be presented within 24 hours of the absence or disciplinary action may be imposed.
2. MAKE-UP ASSIGNMENTS. Students with excused absences should request make-up work upon return to class immediately so that grades will not be affected. An unexcused absence/truancy will result in no make-up work allowed. In the event of an extended absence of 3 days or more, parents may request homework from the Student Office or E-mail the teachers directly. Please give 24 hours notice for teachers to prepare homework.
3. LEAVING SCHOOL EARLY. Early dismissals are disruptive to the learning process. Every attempt should be made to avoid having a doctor or dentist appointment during school hours. In the event that such an appointment can’t be scheduled outside of school hours, a student must bring a note from the parent/guardian to the Student Office before school in order to receive an early dismissal. A student must then check-out with the Student Office before leaving and check back in upon their return. In order to guarantee that your student is ready and on time for appointments, please send a note with them to the Student Office. We understand that EMERGENCIES can come up and we will do our best to accommodate them. Please be aware that depending on your student schedule it could take up to 45 minutes to get a message to your son or daughter. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep classroom interruptions minimal. Students leaving school for any reason without checking out in the Student Office will be considered truant and cannot clear the truancy with a note.
4. ARRIVING LATE TO SCHOOL. Students with an excused or unexcused tardy after 10minutes should report directly to the Student Office.
5. TRUANCY. Truancies are defined as being absent from school/class without the knowledge and approval of the school, teacher or parent/guardian. Work missed due to truancies may/may not be made up. Students who are truant are subject to making up time.
6. TARDY. Tardiness is defined as being late to class as defined by the teacher. Students who have continual tardies will be subject to progressive discipline.
7. HOMEWORK REQUEST. Homework assignments may be requested by contacting the teacher or through the Student Office on the morning of the third day of excused absence. Assignments may be picked up between 2:30 and 3:30 Monday – Friday. Please allow 24 hours for teachers to put the work together.
8. PREARRANGED ABSENCES. If you know your student is going to be missing school in advance, please send a note to the Student Office for a prearranged absence form. Please state the reason and the duration of the absence. Your student will then take the form to the teachers whose classes they will be missing, to get their homework assignments, and return it to the Student Office when complete. Please give them a couple of days to accomplish this. Students who are going to be gone a week or longer should first let their counselor know.
