High School iCAN
The High School iCAN (Individual Credit Advancement Now) program provides online credit recovery opportunities for students at their home high school, using special web-based coursework developed by Spokane Virtual Learning (SVL). iCAN classes help students meet their on-time graduation goals, and classroom times are scheduled at each SPS high school so students can be assisted in person and online.
High school iCAN courses assess each student's prior content knowledge so they complete only the core learning standards they need to demonstrate mastery of the course content. On average, iCAN courses take students 6-8 weeks to complete.
How to register
Students enroll for iCAN courses through their high school counselors and will be placed when a space opens. iCAN enrollment is continual throughout the school year, so as students finish their courses, new students are added. iCAN classroom times are offered during the school day and before or after school, depending on the school.
- Support for iCAN students
- iCAN students have classtime scheduled with an iCAN classroom teacher who is their educational and personal support advocate.
- iCAN students work with online teachers who are their academic content specialist.
- iCAN students can access their coursework from a computer anytime, any place.
- iCAN student progress and teacher contact is tracked in an electronic system to make sure the student's teachers and counselors know how to best support the student.
