Please Welcome Ms. Payton Ritchy, our MIT Student Teacher from Whitworth University!
My name is Miss Ritchy, and I am thrilled to be doing my student teaching here at Salk Middle School! I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Eastern Washington University, where I graduated in June of 2023. My primary instrument is the Bass Clarinet, which I believe is the best instrument ever. I also play the Clarinet and enjoy singing as an amateur vocalist. If you're in the classroom with me this year, you'll have the pleasure of witnessing my attempts to play all the wind instruments.
I am currently pursuing my Masters in Teaching (MIT) degree at Whitworth University. This MIT program is an intensive one-year course, which means I will be here with you all for the entire year. I feel fortunate to have this opportunity. As a first-generation college graduate, I am incredibly proud of my achievements.
Outside of school, you can find me going on walks with my two dogs, traveling with my partner, taking care of my many house plants, crocheting, baking, or spending time with my family. I come from the small town of Wilbur, Washington, which has a population of around 850 people, most of whom are involved in farming wheat and canola.
I am extremely passionate about becoming a future teacher and creating a safe space for students to be themselves and express themselves freely in my classroom. My passion for teaching began when I worked at a daycare for six years, where I witnessed children blossom through the encouragement of trusted adults in their lives. I am greatly looking forward to this opportunity with all of you.
