Pratt Academy High School  

Beginning the fall of the 2019-20 school year, Spokane Public Schools introduced a new choice high school, Pratt Academy, for students who would benefit from a small, personalized learning environment.  Pratt Academy offers two unique learning environments (Pratt Core and Pratt North) for students to pursue their high school education. 

Pratt Core is an all-day, academic program that serves students in grades 9-12.  Pratt North is a half day, Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) serving students primarily in grades 11-12.  Pratt North provides opportunity for students to work independently to retrieve credits both during and outside of the school day.  Both programs provide a rigorous academic setting, focused on pathways to prepare students for graduation and post-secondary pursuits.

Pratt Academy is highly personalized, with strong student-teacher relationships and real-world learning.  Students benefit from a blend of technology-based courses, career exploration, and project-based learning in a small class-sized environment, conducive to teaching and learning.  Individualized planning and mentoring opportunities with highly trained instructors ensure that all students receive the right programming during their educational journey.  

All classes are specifically designed to meet the developmental and academic needs of our students.  Courses are taught in a caring, respectful, and supportive atmosphere where students receive encouragement and guidance to complete their high school education with fidelity.   

Pratt Academy will feature:

• Student Directed Learning:  Students are afforded the opportunity to direct their learning by designing their own individualized education plan in collaboration with teacher-advisors. 

• Project Based Learning: Focusing on the interests and strengths of each student, projects with real world application and relevance will be developed to allow for cross-curricular programming that will promote student engagement and motivation.  

• Mentoring: Daily check-ins and weekly individual mentoring meetings with teacher-advisors to monitor learning plans and progress towards graduation are routine practices at Pratt Academy.

Academic learning is individualized using district approved curriculum through SVL (Spokane Virtual Learning), credit recovery through blended learning (using SVL and classroom teacher instruction) and small group seminars led by teachers and students, sharing opinions, philosophies, and project concepts.

Character/Social-Emotional learning is at the core of Pratt Academy.  Social competencies including setting goals, communication skills, problem solving, and conflict resolution will be taught and practiced on a consistent basis. 

Restorative Practices are implemented schoolwide.  The school has built a strong and supportive learning community that will address conflict readily.  When disagreements arise, adults and students use the restorative practices model to develop lasting agreements and restore relationships in a positive and proactive manner.

Student Population

Pratt Academy serves students in grades 9-12.  Students who present with one or more of the following (below), may benefit from attending this type of school setting. 

• Need a smaller class size and/or school setting
• Behind in credits
• Low attendance
• Minor behavioral challenges
