Duration: 1080 hours: 540 Hours (year-long) with a second year option for qualifying students.

Program Description:
The NEWtech Energy and Power course is a Washington State certified Electrical Pre-Apprenticeship program. In this preparatory 1080-hour course, students will begin training for a lucrative and exciting career in the electrical industry. Students will learn to install, test, and service basic power and lighting systems. They will learn national, state and local codes, rules and laws that pertain to those installation practices, as well as where electricity comes from, how it is generated and distributed to home and businesses.
The purpose of this course is to ensure that potential workers gain an understanding of the electrical industry as a prerequisite to occupation-specific training as well as gain an understanding of the education and careers available in the electrical industry. The course provides math, science, and technical skills through hands-on application and learn to use basic Ohms Law, geometry, and algebra to make circuiting decisions and calculations.
Trainees will have the opportunity to complete several industry certifications and interim credentials. Upon completion of this course, students will be ready to enter the work force by application to a certified apprenticeship program, eventually becoming Journeyman electricians. Students have an opportunity to challenge the first year of apprenticeship schooling and start as a second year apprentice if they complete all course work and training.
