ART at Salk Middle School

  • Welcome to the Salk Middle School Art website. My name is Colleen MacIver, and I am the art teacher at Salk where we have a great art department. Fortunately for us, we have a wonderful administrative team at Salk that supports and values all the arts. At Salk we offer two semester long classes in art, and there is no prerequisite to take either class. Art 1 is a two-dimensional art class where we explore drawing, painting, printmaking and other mixed media. Art 2 is a three-dimensional art class where we explore clay and sculpture. Because these classes can be taken in any order, you are free to take art for an entire year if you choose. If you have a specific preference, sign up for the class that interests you! Every year is different in the art room, with different projects and opportunities to explore new processes and develop new skills. If you choose to take art, come with an open mind ready to delve into your creativity and problem solving skills. The only supplies required for class are an extra-fine point, black Sharpie pen, #2 wood pencil (Ticonderoga are best!), and a box of 12 or more Crayola colored pencils. Our first project is always to build your sketchbook for class. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about art at Salk Middle School at
