About Mr. Nord
Mr. Nord was born and raised in Spokane Washington. At the age of 5 Mr. Nord began playing violin and then later joined the Spokane Area Children's Chorus. Mr. Nord began trombone in the Central Valley School Districts beginning band and eventually went on to graduate from University High School in 2001. During high school Mr. Nord joined the Spokane Youth Symphony Organization. As a young trombonist Mr. Nord was selected to compete in 2 State Solo/Ensemble Festivals and 1 All-State Band.
After high school Mr. Nord attended Eastern Washington University where he graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of the Arts in Education degree, majoring in music education. During his time at Eastern Mr. Nord studied with many of the Spokane area high schools and middle schools, completing his student teaching under Scott Jones at Mt Spokane High School. Mr. Nord also holds a Masters in Conducting from the American Band College, Southern Oregon University, 2009 and completed his Professional Teaching Certificate with Gonzaga University, 2009.
Mr. Nord held two teaching positions prior to his employment at Lewis & Clark High School, where he began during the 2010-2011 school year. First, he spent one year in Spokane Public Schools teaching 5th and 6th grade beginning band and then he followed that with four years at Lakeside High School where he taught high school band, jazz band, choir, guitar, digital music, and 5th grade beginning band. During his tenure at Lakeside High School Mr. Nord was the recipient of the KHQ/EWU Teacher of the Month Award for February 2008.
Mr. Nord's ensembles have traveled throughout Washington and to California, Montana, Idaho, and Vancouver, BC. The groups consistently earn superior rankings at festivals in all categories and performed for the NAfME-NW Conference in 2015. Mr. Nord is frequently an adjudicator for the Spokane Jr. Lilac Parade and recently conducted his first honor band. He has also served as an adjudicator for Solo/Ensemble festivals and at Band Large Group Festivals. Mr. Nord has been the Band Representative for the SFNEMEA and is the former President of SFMEA.
Mr. Nord is happily married and lives in Spokane Valley with his wife Darcy Nord, the band/orchestra teacher at Selkirk Middle School, their son Samuel, daughter Evelyn, and their two dogs Tucker and Cooper.
