My favorite part about coaching is bringing together student athletes with varying cultures and experiences and creating a team environment that strives for success and enjoys the process not just the results.

Distance running is a lifelong sport that is truly an analogy for life. Running challenges us in ways that help us realize our potential and what we're capable of. My favorite part about coaching is connecting with our student-athletes, helping them overcome challenges so they can discover how strong they truly are. Dedication, consistency, and teamwork are at the forefront of my coaching philosophy. At Shadle Park we are building a positive culture with new traditions, a supportive community, while learning the importance of hard work balanced with fun.

"My knowledge comes more from experience, I have been doing jumps since I was 6 years old to 18 years old and placed at the National Junior Olympics twice, once in Sacramento and once in Indianapolis. Track has always been my passion."

I love seeing athletes believe in themselves and thrive because of their mindset. The workouts are the easy part, the most impressive thing to me is when athletes start beating their previous marks simply because they believed they could - there's an "a-ha" moment for each athelete, that's what I strive to see and love being a part of that journey.  Once the mentality has been created, there's that moment where the technique clicks, they are going full speed, and not looking back, that's where champions are made, that's what I live for!

Coaching provides an opportunity to help athletes grow in a number of ways. Athletics is a great way to develop character. Track specifically affords the chance for an athlete to focus on their individual achievement and still be part of a team. Pole vault is a unique event because of the combination of an exceptional difficult physical challenge combined with the mental demands. I love being part of the growth experience in pole vault. It’s incredibly rare for even the best of athletes to come to pole vault and immediately have success. There are a lot of failures to overcome before one will see success. It takes a lot humility to commit to being a pole vaulter. Only pole vault and high jump always end in failure. Even if you achieve a personal best or set a school or meet record, the day will end in failure, 3 misses and you’re out.
