Mooberry History

  • Jack Mooberry

In 1964, an invitational meet was organized to honor Jack Mooberry's dedication to track and field. He gave so much of himself to ensure students a "lifetime experience" that would assist them in becoming the best person they could be.

Jack was raised in Wenatchee where he attended high school and was a Washington Interscholastic High School sprint champion. In 1927, he enrolled for his freshman year at Washington State College where he was the leading Cougar sprinter.  He graduated in 1931 and took his first teaching and coaching position at Longview High School. In 1933 he moved to Spokane to continue his career at Rogers High School. In 1945 he returned to Washington State College and coached the Cougars until he retired in 1973. Jack Mooberry passed away in 1980.

We are proud of the Rogers "family" that has made this one of the oldest track events in the state of Washington. Many parents of today's athletes competed in this event during their school years. A track meet of this magnitude would not be possible without the support, commitment, and desire of the Rogers family. This includes those who, in the past, have given of themselves to make this a distinctive meet, symbolic of the person to whom it is dedicated.
