Elementary: Grades K-5
Spokane Public Schools' elementary mathematics programs strive to build 21st century problem solvers, mathematical thinkers and collaborative citizens. From kindergarten to sixth grade, students develop and grow learning operations, multiplicative thinking, algebraic thinking, geometry, spatial relations and measurement in their mathematical journey. SPS teachers have a deep commitment to teaching students the needed skills to be successful 21st century citizens. Mathematical instruction aligns to the Washington State Standards and uses Bridges in Mathematics as its curriculum to support learning these standards.
Curriculum: Bridges in Mathematics
Middle: Grade 6
The SPS 6th grade math courses continue to develop problem solvers who seek to understand and can communicate effectively. Students have opportunities to make connections to real-world contexts throughout the materials as most units include a real-world application lesson. In our consumable problem-based curriculum, students work on carefully crafted and sequenced mathematics problems to build on their number sense as they develop a foundational fluency for geometry, algebra, and statistics.

Middle School
SPS middle school math courses continue to develop problem solvers who seek to understand and can communicate effectively. Courses include 6th, 7th, Accelerated, and 8th Grade Math.

High School (Traditional Studies)
The SPS traditionally sequenced math courses extend the work of granting all students the opportunity to develop into creative problem solvers, critical thinkers, life-long learners, and more capable adults. Our program uses consumable textbooks, interactive technology, and student-centered classrooms to develop deep conceptual understanding that supports ongoing growth and continued development in mathematics.
Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 Curriculum: Carnegie Learning
Pre-Calculus Curriculum: Pearson
High School (College Credit in the High School)
SPS has partnered with post-secondary institutions to support the continued development of mathematics in our region. Students who have completed Algebra 2 and/or Pre-Calculus have earned the opportunity to pursue post-secondary math credit by taking the advanced coursework in our high schools that extend beyond the traditional pathway.
