Outside Lewis and Clark High School before school on Friday mornings, you may see up to one dozen students casting lines on a grassy lawn for the LC Fly Fishing Society. Led by advisors Andy Lang and Andrew Lipsker with lots of support from volunteer Rob Lichfield, whose son Grant is a senior in the club, the group practices tying flies when it’s too cold to cast outside.
“It gives them another avenue to go outside and recreate, and find something that brings them joy,” said Mr. Lang.
Future projects for the group include learning to build their own rods and inviting guest speakers to share about ecology and fishing.
The Saxons Anglers, a fishing club at Ferris High School, were recently featured by NonStop Loval KHQ after receving a donation of fishing reels courtesy of True Value and Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, who have also visited the group to share about fishing laws and ethics.
We love that community members and staff can share hobbies and passions to encourage students to engage in real life activities outside of the school day!
