Carrie and James Dorrell smile with their three children, surrounded by other elementary school children in a classroom.

On Tuesday, two Moran Prairie parent volunteers, Carrie and James showed up for their regular day of volunteering in their students’ 3rd and 5th grade classrooms. But before they could get to work, principal Kate Hellenthal had a special announcement – they were this semester’s honorees for Outstanding Volunteers!

“Carrie has been one of our amazing volunteer coordinators for the last two years, but she has been volunteering at Moran Prairie for six years,” wrote office manager Shelby McVay in her nomination, which was seconded by Ms. Hellenthal.

“Not only does she line up volunteers for all of our events, but she typically volunteers for every event as well. She helps with Picture Day, Health Screenings, Garden Club, Book Fair...the list goes on and on for both Moran Prairie PTG and school events.”

“James, her husband has been volunteering every week in his children's classrooms, helping with copying, reading to children...no task is to large or small,” Miss Shelby continued. “When he comes in, he is always early and asks the office if there is something he can help us with before he heads to the class for his scheduled volunteer time.”

“This is just a wonderful family and this couple does so much for Moran Prairie and truly cares not only about their children, but every child, family and staff member and is always looking for ways to enrich them all!”

Congratulations, Carrie and James! We are grateful to you and the thousands of volunteers who dedicate their time and talents to supporting our school communities!
