A glass artist sets up an outdoor studio while students watch.

The glass arts are a popular pastime at On Track Academy, with students regularly producing award-winning stained glass and lampworked glass pieces in their school studio.

They recently took their in-school interest out into the real world with an up-close look at the fiery art of glassblowing when the Museum of Glass Mobile Hot Shop rolled into the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture.

Students met with artists Alex Cain and Conor McClellan about turning molten glass into mesmerizing shapes in their outdoor glassblowing studio, and explored the MAC’s current exhibit, Raven and the Box of Daylight, featuring the stunning glasswork of Preston Singletary.

"On Track is really focusing on real world learning experiences for our students," said OTA Internship Coordinator Sunny Da Costa. "This gives them an opportunity to see what a glass artist does."

We love it when students get to see how their passions can become professions in real life settings! Learn more about On Track Academy.
