Students playing cricket in a park.

Cricket might be one of the most popular sports globally, but here in the U.S., it’s still gaining ground. For North Central and Shadle Park students Ahmad, Inam, and Mohammad, cricket was a part of life back in Afghanistan. Now, as refugees in Spokane, they’re reconnecting with the sport they love.

Thanks to volunteers like Manoj Thirupal and support from organizations such as Manzanita House and LaunchNW, these students gather weekly at the Underhill Park cricket pitch. Through Cricket Club, they’re learning teamwork, building confidence, strengthening relationships — and having a ‘wicket’ good time!
