Last week, On Track Academy celebrated the opening of an outdoor learning space where students can gather to learn, reflect, and enjoy nature.

“This will be a space that will open up our classrooms, open up nature, open up so many learning opportunities," said Superintendent Dr. Adam Swinyard.

“Meet Us in the Trees” is a project 10 years in the making, first imagined when OTA operated out of portable classrooms. After settling into its home on the SPS Hillyard campus four years ago — a space shared with NEWTech Prep, Shaw Middle School, and Regal Elementary School — staff and students were able to make their dream a reality with collaboration and support with multiple organizations and local businesses.

This outdoor forest classroom project provides a nontraditional learning space that benefits both our students and the broader community," noted Spokane Parks and Recreation Urban Forester Katie Kosanke.

What a wonderful addition to the Hillyard Community Campus!
