Older women practice tap dancing in a studio.

For more than 20 years, the Tap Grandmas have been stepping their way across Spokane, staying active and entertaining groups at community centers, elementary schools, and other venues.

Founded by retired teachers Joan Hamilton (Finch Elementary School) and Dennie Crowe (North Central High School), the Tap Grandmas use their talents for good by supporting HEART’s Annual Gift Card Drive.

“HEART had helped students that you had, students that I had, students my husband had, students my son had,” Dennie listed, explaining why they collect donations for HEART at their Christmas holiday party.

“A $25 gift card or a $50 gift card allows high school and middle school kids to be part of their society, which when you're homeless, that's a tough, tough road to be in,” Dennie noted.

“I know that HEART is so generous to these kids and it just makes a difference, I’m sure,” Joan added.

We’re collecting donations for HEART through Monday, Dec. 8 to distribute to students who lack a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence before Winter Break. Thank you, Tap Grandmas, for supporting our students.
