On Wednesday, six members of our Homeless Education And Resource Team (HEART) sorted $36,878 in gift card donations for students that lack a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence before Winter Break.
With an additional $26,260 to the HEART Trust donations, the Spokane community donated a recording-breaking $63,138 to support these students.
“These donations prove the generosity of our community and the commitment to care for kids. We are so thankful!” said Homeless Community Specialist Curt Chambers with agreement from his teammates.
Among the donations were $1,460 in gift cards collected by SPS district staff at a cheery office social this week, and $25,000 worth of $100 Yoke’s Fresh market gift cards donated by a local nonprofit organization.
We are truly grateful to everyone in our community who participated, from kids who emptied out their piggy banks to the Tap Grandmas who went the extra step (get it?) to show students that Spokane cares!
