Kids with flags of their nation

Nearly 20% of students at Frances Scott Elementary are multi-language learners, meaning English is their family's second language. That makes for a school full of culture where students learn about each other's traditions.

That was on display Dec. 12, as the school hosted a cultural holiday celebration, where 47 kids and two staff members walked in with flags of their heritage, including native tribal flags.

With family and friends in attendance, students sang holiday songs with multiple cultures represented - including American. Students shared their holiday traditions and students of African descent performed a traditional dance. The big finale was a visit by Santa, who assured the kids they were on the "Nice" list.
