Rock, paper scissors. Basketball. Uno. Soccer. Kids line up to play games with Campus Safety Specialist Carlos Avila Duran as he makes his rounds through Chase Middle School.
Laughter and jokes help him build relationships with 6th, 7th and 8th grade students, connecting through different languages – even ones he doesn’t speak himself – as he contributes to a learning environment that’s safe and welcoming for all.
"I just really love them because it's still that point where they’re not fully high schoolers and they're still innocent enough to explore, to be themselves."
