When Carrie Knutson's daughter Rosie started kindergarten last fall, she had real concerns. As a parent of a five-year-old with a seizure disorder, challenges with motor skills, and safety awareness issues, she was nervous about how Rosie would fare in the new environment.
“It's really hard to be willing to send them off with people that you don't particularly know,” she shared.
Carrie explains how the team at Whitman Elementary provided a sense of security that her daughter would be safe at school. Teachers stepped up by communicating regularly, collaborating to support Rosie's individual needs, and helping her build skills to keep pace with her peers.
The result? Rosie loves school, she's made friends, and she's made incredible strides socially and academically.
“I’ve had a really great experience with Spokane Public Schools,” Carrie said, noting that her son is enrolled the highly capable elementary school program Tessera, giving her unique view of the full range of district supports.
