Educators, employers, families and friends gathered in the Spokane Public Schools Board Room on June 3 to celebrate this year’s graduates of Secondary Transition’s STEP and LIFE programs.
Both special education programs help young adults ages 18-22 with significant cognitive and adaptive challenges build essential life skills and gain hands-on experience to foster greater independence, both in the community and the workforce.

“You are very capable, every single one of you. You are ready for whatever comes next, every single one of you, and you are not walking into the future alone. All of us are with you along the way. You are not by yourself. And this community, this team, we will continue to cheer you on,” shared Kristina Baker, executive director of Special Education and Student Supports.
Eight students received diplomas with awards distributed for Employee of the Year, Most Improved, Most Dependable and Most Inspiring as well.
Students and staff also recognized local businesses that host student interns and employment agencies that help secure student employment.
