Before the end of the school year, Shadle Park High School juniors and seniors gather in the school auditorium for the annual Torch Passing Ceremony with 12th grade students declaring their post-graduation plans and passing a symbolic torch to the next class.
We asked Katie DeWitt, who learned to fly starting her freshman year through a partnership of our AFJROTC program at Rogers and Northwest Flight Service, to reflect on the opportunities that led to her crossing the stage.
With encouragement from family and staff, Katie has the flight hours required to be qualify for a private pilot license and has been accepted into the United States Air Force Academy.
We are proud of Katie and all Highlanders who have challenged themselves and are achieving their dreams.
