Four years ago as a freshman, Kjersti, or KJ to her friends, was one of the first students to join Ferris High School’s new Unified Club, connecting students with and without disabilities for activities and sports.
And yes, maybe she was encouraged to join by her mom, Ferris Special Education teacher Karissa Jacobson, who also happened to be the club’s advisor. But as KJ reflected on her high school experience, joining Unified stood out among activities.
“Unified has been just a huge part of my high school career, and it's probably been my favorite part,” said KJ, who is going to Jessup University this fall to play Division II volleyball and pursue pediatric occupational therapy. “I have learned so much from these students in Unified.”
The memories that KJ and all Saxons made both in and out of the classroom will stay with them long after crossing the graduation stage. We are proud to celebrate this milestone with them.
