Last week, Adams Elementary School staff and constructions crews gathered to sign the final steel beam before it was lifted into place for the school’s new building.
The practice of "topping out" a new facility is rooted in a centuries-old Scandinavian tradition. A tree is typically placed on the topmost/last placed beam to honor the safety and wellbeing of those who worked on the structure.
SPS Chief Operations Officer Travis Schulhauser noted that the celebration was the culmination of many years of planning and work by SPS staff, NAC Architecture and Garco Construction to replace the nearly 120-year-old school building with a modern facility that would improve security, efficiency and accessibility for its All Star students.
Principal Beth Nye’s message read “Thank you for our NEW school!” in appreciation for voter’s approval of the 2025 bond to fund this project. The building is on schedule to open for students and staff in Fall 2027.
