Update: Aug. 3, 2026, 5 p.m.

The free emergency drop-in camp for children ages 4 and older at Shadle Park High School will be available every day this week, Aug. 3-7, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This is intended to give parents and caregivers impacted by wildfires a safe place for their children while they take a break, run errands, or address other immediate needs. Children do not need to be enrolled in Spokane Public Schools or live within SPS boundaries to attend.

Lunch will be provided at noon through the federal free summer meals program. Activities will be supervised by Spokane Public Schools staff. Families can also access a clothing closet and connect with resources like HEART and CHAS Health.

If your child needs another trusted adult to help in processing recent events, we encourage you to fill out this brief interest form and a member of our Mental Health Services team will be in touch. All information will be kept confidential.

Cooling Centers: Spokane Regional Health District maintains a list of Cooling Center Locations.

Summer Meals: SPS Summer Meal sites located within active evacuation zones, currently including Flett Middle School and Linwood and Ridgeview elementaries, will not serve meals while those zones remain in place. Updates will be shared as conditions change.

Campus Safety: SPS Campus Safety staff are contributing to a coordinated effort to maintain a visible safety presence and additional supervision within evacuated areas.

YMCA Access: Community members impacted by the fires may use YMCA facilities for showers and daytime access at no cost, as needed. Adults should bring a photo ID, as everyone entering a YMCA facility is subject to an offender registry screening because the facilities serve youth.

Ways to Help: Innovia Foundation has established the Spokane Complex Wildfire Response Fund. Tax-deductible donations will support nonprofit and community organizations providing immediate assistance and long-term recovery services to people affected by the fires.
