Students building

This winter, a brand-new student club has officially set sail at Moran Prairie—our very own Titanic Club, led by paraeducator Nicollai Edwards. With nearly 30 enthusiastic historians enrolled, interest was so high that the group now meets in two sessions: half on Mondays and half on Thursday. These students are simply fascinated by the Titanic, its history, and the stories connected to its 1912 voyage.

The club dove right in with planning sessions and a vote on activities that most captured their curiosity. So far, students have enjoyed Titanic trivia and shared surprising facts they’ve discovered—including the fun (and slightly eerie) detail that the ship’s indoor pool is still full to this day! Each week is designed to balance learning, collaboration, and hands-on exploration. Even the days chiosen to meet were intentional: the Titanic set sail on Thursday April 10th, 1912 and hit the iceberg on Monday April 14th, 1912.

This week promised a special highlight: a Titanic-themed tea time. Students will learn about the food stored on board, menus for first-, second-, and third-class passengers, and how meals were prepared and transported more than a century ago. The club continues to buzz with excitement as members deepen their understanding of life aboard the ship.

The culminating project, while we wrap up next week, will be nothing short of spectacular: students will build replicas of the RMS Titanic, which will be displayed for the entire school community to enjoy. A very special thank-you goes to Hunter, the student whose curiosity and idea helped launch this voyage. Titanic Club is off to a thrilling start, and we can’t wait to see where this learning journey leads!
