We’re excited to share that Winter, a 20-year-old student in STEP’s Secondary Transition program, was featured in The Spokesman-Review article about Shadle Park High School’s first-ever inclusive “adapted field day.” This event, designed for special education students, provided a fun and supportive environment with activities like wheelchair basketball, a bouncy castle, and a sensory tent.
Winter enjoyed a soccer game with players from Spokane’s Velocity soccer team, saying, "I like that I get to run around." Along with Winter, all STEP students had the opportunity to participate in activities that promoted physical exercise, fun, and social interaction while ensuring their sensory preferences were respected.
The event’s success was built on the principle of inclusion, and we are grateful to Shadle Park High School, ParaSport Spokane, and the community organizations that made it possible. A big thank you to the teachers, staff, and leadership students at Shadle for their hard work in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone.
This event was a wonderful example of how collaboration can create meaningful experiences for all students. We’re proud of our STEP students and thankful for the opportunity to be part of such an amazing day.
