A sunny nature walk in Lincoln Park with Franklin Elementary School science teacher Wes Pitter’s first and second grade students yesterday seemed like the perfect opportunity to recognize one of this year’s Outstanding Volunteer Award winners – Franklin parent and volunteer Lisa Bowman.
“Lisa approached me three years ago with the idea of building a nature program in which all Franklin students at had least one nature experience every year. Her idea has grown to nearly monthly nature experiences for most students,” wrote Mr. Pitter in his nomination. “Lisa has endless passion. When she shows up to work with the students, she exudes positivity and a love for nature that is contagious.”
His nomination was seconded by third grade teacher Cara Spink, whose students benefited from Miss Lisa’s support in squid dissection project during a unit on sea life. “I cannot stress enough how wonderful it is to have Lisa as an advocate for learning for all our students – not just her own,” she wrote.
Spokane Public Schools recognizes two of the nearly 14,000 registered volunteers who dedicate their time and talents to supporting our students and staff twice each year. Thank you for all you do, Miss Lisa!
