ASB Hats For Hunger

Cooper ASB in front of a Feed Spokane Van

My name is Heather Ader, and I am one of the ASB advisors at Cooper Elementary. I wanted to share with you their latest project. For the month of February, the 6th graders who make up our Associated Student Body, organized and executed a highly successful food drive to benefit the hungry in Spokane. They called it “Hats for Hunger”. Each Friday in February a student was able to bring in a non-perishable food item to donate in exchange for wearing a hat at school that day. Our ASB students went classroom to classroom each Friday collecting the cans of food, and today we were able to present 416 pounds of donations to Mr. and Mrs. Brashers with Feed Spokane. These student leaders, along with all of the students and staff at Cooper who donated, are an inspiration to me, and I’d love for their story to help inspire others to serve those in need.
