On June 4, Spokane Public Schools celebrated the remarkable careers of 83 retirees, honored the achievements of this year’s award recipients, and recognized three new awardees at The Podium.
Retirees crossed the same stage graduates will walk this weekend to receive a gift of appreciation and exchange handshakes and hugs with superintendent Dr. Adam Swinyard, our school board directors, and leaders from across the district.

Rogers High School Principal John Hammil was surprised with the Dick Stannard Principal of the Year Award, recognizing his commitment to staff, students, and his school’s neighborhood.
Treehouse received the Community Bridge Builder Award, which honors a community partner that exemplifies what it means to build bridges between schools, families, and the broader community.
And finally, Spokane Public Schools was honored to present the Legacy Award to Toni Lodge, founder of The Native Project and a former SPS employee, in recognition of her lifelong commitment to equity, health, and community empowerment.
Our Student Advisors to the School Board, Lauren Erickson and Maile Esperas, were also celebrated for their contributions to SPS this year.
Special thanks to the ProStart culinary students Ferris, Lewis and Clark, North Central, Rogers and Shadle Park high schools, as well as NEWTech Prep Culinary Arts and Hospitality students, who created delicious desserts for the celebration. We appreciate Rogers Air Force Junior ROTC for presenting the flag.
Congrats to all who were recognized, and thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the celebration!
