Student Voice Group

Our 5th Grade Students in the Lincoln Heights Student Voice Group continue to blow us away with their thoughtful and honest feedback. This week's responses brought all of us back to the simplest truth: teacher-student connections are the most powerful tool in making students feel authentically welcomed and loved.

We asked for feedback around 3 questions. Below are some quotes that we captured during our time together.

Question #1: What makes you feel welcome?

  • "...when staff members say 'Good Morning'"
  • "...when I am greeted at the door."
  • "I feel welcome when my classroom is calm and quiet"
  • "I feel welcome when materials and my classroom are ready and organized because I can tell my teacher is committed."
  • "...when the school is clean"
  • "I feel welcome when teachers help us work."

Question #2: What is your favorite thing you have learned recently?

  • "Common denominators"
  • "Adding fractions"
  • "The novel 'Thunder Rolling in the Mountains'"
  • "The Nez Perce"

Question 3: What has not made you feel welcome at school?

  • "...When kids are disruptive in class"

We will continue to share feedback with teachers and families and work to make sure our students are heard, valued and represented in our building and community!
