The Great Shaw Pumpkin Contest

sugar skull Even though most students are distance learning, the staff at Shaw Middle are making sure the kids have a memorable Spooky Season, even from afar. 

This last week, the Shaw Sunshine Team – a group of school faculty and staff focused on building community within the school through social programs and volunteer opportunities – arranged for a donation of pumpkins and asked interested staff to participate in a pumpkin decorating/carving contest.

Carve-testants could pick one of the following themes: Shaw, Hillyard or Education. The entries did not disappoint.

“It’s been a fun activity for staff and students,” said Shaw office manager Melissa Perier.

On Wednesday, with the pimped-out pumpkins lined up in the hallway, Shaw students with in-person classes got to vote on their favorite ones. The top five vote-getters will then be put to an online schoolwide vote during Friday morning’s advisory. And the winner is...

The Shaw Sunshine Team also used this pumpkin contest as an opportunity to ask folks to donate new or gently-used cold weather gear that will be distributed to those in need. If you’re interested in donating, please contact Melissa.
