Algebra 2

  • Algebra II Syllabus

Welcome to Algebra 2! Algebra 2 will continue to build on the concepts that you learned in Algebra 1; analyzing patterns, exploring functions, etc. This will be a collaborative environment where mistakes are valuable, and questions are necessary and important!

We will create classroom norms and expectations as a class!

    SUPPLIES

    • A folder or binder where you keep syllabi, handouts and returned papers.
    • A scientific calculator. We have a class set for in class use.
    • Carnegie book – each student will receive their own book and be responsible for it throughout the year.
    • Computer – Every student will be able to check out a computer from the school
    • A notebook

    GRADING POLICY

    • Daily Assignments, in class work, MATHia (30% of final grade)
    • Assessments (70% of final grade) This includes quizzes, tests and small formative assessments throughout the unit. At the end of each unit, students will take a test on the knowledge covered in the unit. They will be given a study guide for each test and be given at least a week notice before the test to give them plenty of time to prepare.
    • Final Grades are determined using the following scale:

A = student earns at least 90% of all possible points

B = student earns at least 80% of all possible points
C = student earns at least 70% of all possible points

D = student earns at least 60% of all possible points

    F = below 60%

    • I use a standards based grading scale. This means that you will get a specific grade of 10-50 for each of the standards we cover in this class (about 5-6 standards per unit), instead of a percentage grade. You will also have multiple attempts at each standard to improve the grade you receive. This helps students focus on the specific topic (standard) where they are struggling and gives the student time and opportunity to improve!

    MAKE-UP POLICY

*This class was made for small group and whole class discussion. Because of this, it is critical that students are here as much as possible. They can make up in class work but the important part of the class comes from what they can learn from their peers and the discussions we have as a class.

    • Carnegie work, MATHia, etc – Assignments not completed on time NEED to be completed BEFORE the end of the grading period.
    • Tests and Quizzes – Tests and Quizzes that are missing due to absences need to be made up within a week of the original test date!

If you are gone you need to check TEAMS for any thing you missed that day.

When you are gone for MORE THAN ONE DAY, you need to check in with me through e-mail and check Teams for any work you missed.

    ATTENDENCE

I encourage students to be in class 100% of the time. Perfect attendance gives you the best opportunity to be successful in school. However, I understand that absences will occur. If you miss class, you need to check the weekly calendar on Teams to find out what you missed that day and make it up ON YOUR OWN TIME! If you need help, I will gladly help you with what you need to get caught up on either before school or after school but YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE INITIATIVE.

    SCHOOL TARDY POLICY

    • 1st and 2nd tardy – verbal warning
    • 3rd tardy – Call home
    • 4th tardy – Referral to office
