Welcome to 8th Grade Math (MS Math 2) at Salk Middle School. I am excited to be teaching your young person this year!
This class is designed for students entering 8th grade & have covered 7th grade content! Remember this class is laying the foundation for the math students will learn in High School Algebra! Expectations are high for students taking this class.
Our Math Curriclum is Open Up Resources for MS courses. We use a number of tools with this curriculum including: Interactive Notebook, Moby Max, Blackboard, Kahn Academy, & a variety of other resources.
We cover a variety of topics in MS Math 2 this year. The content covered is grouped into Units which each has its own book for the students to use:
- Unit 1--Rigid Transformations & Congruence
- Unit 2--Dilations, Similarity, & Introducing slope
- Unit 3--Linear Relationships
- Unit 4--Linear Equations & Linear Systems
- Unit 5--Functions & Volume
- Unit 6--Associations in Data
- Unit 7--Exponents & Scientific Notation
- Unit 8--Pythagorean Theorem & Irrational Numbers
Although we cover a lot of topics throughout the year, remember we may or may not follow this exact order. Based on time allowed & the needs of our students we may move topics to the end of the year or shorten some topics to focus our efforts on the most important topics. If you ever have questions, just let me know!
