Superintendent Dr. Adam Swinyard presented the award, along with a generously donated gift card to Indaba Coffee Roasters and Principal McFarland said a few kind words before handing the mic to Richard, who stood with his wife and infant son.

“I love coming to work with you guys every single day,” he told students and staff. “I feel very loved. I’m excited for my son, Peter, to someday walk in these halls, and for you guys to maybe someday be his teacher, to be the next crop of people raising up young students here at Salk.”

Salk Counselor Lyndsey Sabo wrote in her nomination for Richard that he’s an incredible example of leading with heart and by example. “He challenges kids to be their best self while supporting them through every minute of a challenge. Kids LOVE him! His ability to stay calm and patient with students is a gift. Salk is a better school for his leadership, love and commitment to kids.”

    Congratulations, Richard!
