• Greetings Flett Families

One of our goals this year is to improve communication home. Flett’s social media channels were recently recognized by Spokane Public Schools last year as one of the best of the best, so check them out and like our page soon! We have been working to add helpful information to our webpage and increase the frequency of our email updates. We also have a great tool called Let’s Talk. You can access it from any page on our website to ask questions. These questions then get routed to the correct department and individual for a response. The district goal is to respond within 48 hours of any call or email—although hopefully sooner! If you have suggestions for our website, please email AlexisO@spokaneschools.org. Want to find information from a prior Flett Flash? Just go to our website and click on About > Our School > Flett Flash.

We are excited to announce that SPS’s Office of Family & Community Engagement and Flett Middle School are collaborating to put on a event called Building Bridges to Beloved Community.

Building Bridges to Beloved Community is a series of three interactive and engaging 75-minute trainings. These trainings provide an opportunity to bring school staffs and their student families together to have conversations about how to talk about race and difference. This intentional time together empowers participants with tools, language, and resources to honor the eclectic make up of our schools and our world. The first session is for Flett staff and is 10/13. The second is for Flett families (not staff) and is on 10/19 at 6:30 at Flett. The final session is 11/2 from 4:30-6:00 at Flett. During this session, both staff and families come together over a shared meal to learn and hear from one another. We really look forward to this shaerd learning experience. We're hoping for a big turnout so please mark your calendars!

    Updates & Reminders:

    • Arrival & Supervision: Please remember that campus is closed until 8:40 daily and that we do not have supervision until that time. Please talk to your student about when they should leave home if the walk or ride a bike. If you drop your student off, please wait until at least 8:40 to do so. Also, please be mindful that students may not take food and drink items to class. Sometimes students have come with large food or drink items that cannot be consumed before class.
    • We have officially launched our Associated Student Body! Students voted on our student officers last spring, and they have been hard at work since before school started. Check out our officers here. They are currently gearing up for our first annual Flett Fphantom Fun Run, which will take place on 10/27 during the school day. More information to come!
    • Check our calendar below and on our website for information including Picture Day, next week!
    • Miss school, miss out! Our goal is to reduce student absences. We need your help. Students need to be at school daily unless sick. Studies show that missing even a few days a month puts students at risk.
    • Tardy Policy: Starting this week, students may have to make up missed class time in the form of lunch detention, after several warnings.
    • Cell phone/ear buds: Thank you for supporting our cell phone policy—students are doing a great job keeping phones at home or in backpacks. Please continue to monitor students’ phone access by limiting the amount of time and which apps they can access. For support and ideas, see our social media page.
    • One Spokane Stadium opens! We are excited to have one place to host many of our HS sports. Check out opportunities to check out the facility: One Spokane Stadium: Coming Soon - YouTube ;  Know before you go.
