• Description: 

    This 1080-hour course (Year 1 and 2) will supply students with basic salon operation, hair cutting, styling and coloring techniques. Students will be introduced to clients in the second half of the school year to improve their practical and professional skills.  Students earn hours toward Washington State Hair Design Certification (1400 hrs required). This program prepares students for a career in the cosmetology industry and helps prepare them for the state licensing exam.

    PLEASE NOTE: 

    Students must have at least junior standing and be 16 years of age or older prior to the first day of class.
    Must have state ID# to be enrolled and to earn state hours toward certification.

      

    IN THIS PROGRAM YOU WILL:

    The following topics will recur throughout the course, spiraling and continually building on these foundational concepts with practical application and hands-on learning experience of the knowledge and skills covered in all aspects of Cosmetology (Hair Design).

    • Electricity 

    • Chemistry 

    • Trichology 

    • Principles of Hair Design 

    • Scalp Care 

    • Hair cutting 

    • Hair styling 

    • Wigs and Hair Additions 

    • Chemical Texturizing 

    • Hair Color  

    • Business Skills 1, 2, 3, and 4. 

     Students will also prepare a resumé and develop employability skills.

    Year 1
    Any combination equal to 3.0 credits (1.5 max per semester)

    Certification Opportunities: 
    Hours earned toward the WA State Hair Design Certificate.  Upon completion of the required 1,400 hours, students will have the opportunity to test for the Washington State Cosmetology-Hair Design license.

    Required Materials:  

     

    • Students must dress appropriately; following dress code. 

    • Any student that is not completely in dress code will not be allowed to clock in and earn hours for that day; please understand that the dress code is for professional appearances and safety. 

    • Calculator (NO Cell Phones are to be used on the school premises during school hours) 

    • Lock for your student locker (Key or combination) 

    • Pen (Black or Blue only and Pencils)

    • 3’’ three ring binder, binder dividers, and plastic sheets 

    • Paper and a school notebook  

    • 1 Manikin Head actual price to be announced  

     

    NOTE* Students must have access to a computer for class projects 

    •  Students will be responsible for providing Tools and Materials needed for the End of Year Competition (Culminating Project) to be announced. 

    NOTE:  All professional products purchased by the school are for classroom use only.  All students must provide and pay for their own products for personal services.
